Bathroom Design Trends for the New Year

One of my New Year’s Resolution is getting my bathroom remodeled. While nothing definitive has started yet (trust me, I’ll be posting pics the way parents show of baby photos), I’ve done quite a bit of review of what’s hot in bathroom styling. For our last blog of the year, I’m going to post what I’ve turned up, to fuel your dreams and ideas in the coming months. Continue reading →

Save $$ With Eco-Friendly Products!

Care to save some cash? It seems as if now a days everywhere you turn there is an advertisment, a message, a plea to “Go Green.” In today’s society, we are more fast-paced, alarmingly wasteful, and unnecessarily wasting the precious resources that our planet has given us.

How can we be more efficient? What can you really do to “Go Green?” Sure you can do the simple things like turn off the lights in the rooms no one is using. You can turn off the water while you are brushing your teeth or shaving. Making sure the sprinklers in the lawn are off when it rains, and even something as simple as recycling can help.

Through programs such as Be Water Wise, and SoCal Water$mart, the government is giving out rebates to residents who have become more water efficient. Manufacturers of bathroom and kitchen water fixtures are also helping residents and businesses become more water efficient. Staying ahead of the design curve, popular manufacturers such as Toto, Duravit, Altmans, and Hansgrohe are making it easy to become more water efficient without disrupting your daily routine. High efficient toilets use less water per flush, and new showerheads have less water flow without impacting the water pressure. Cutting down on water usage is a great way to “go green,” and if it puts a little bit of extra cash in your pocket with lower water bills then why not?! It is a win-win situation! A Plumbtile representative will be happy to help you save our planet as well as some cash!

Plumbtile's Brick and Mortar Parent, IBT

Last week we shot a video in the showroom of Plumbtile.com‘s brick and mortar parent, IBT. Based in Southern California, IBT is a cross between a bath, tile, plumbing and fixture showroom and an art gallery. In the video, owner Tammy Moch explains the philosophy she and husband Clive Moch wish to bring from the retail showroom to the e-tail website.

Seeing Is Believing- CAD Software for Beginners

If you browse blogs for architecture, design or interior decorating, often times you’ll see nicely rendered three-dimensional drawings of rooms or houses. These detailed mockups are part and parcel of the realm of architects and professional home decorators, but a few companies have made steps to make the process easier for the average homeowner (and professionals as well). Plumbtile: The Passion of the Owner

I can’t quite put his passion to words but it is palatable. I’ve just had the pleasure and privilege of a private tour of Plumbtile.com‘s San Diego retail outlet, International Bath and Tile, conducted by owner Clive Moch.

I’m visiting International Bath and Tile from my home in Toronto on what can only be described as a fact finding mission. I have been coaching the web team at Plumbtile.com for the past five months in a bid to improve the look, feel, and functionality of the website but until today had not actually met Clive or his wife Tammy. After a two hour long morning meeting and a subsequent tour of the retail showroom, I understand I’ve waited several months too long.

As we walk the aisles of the 12,000 sq.ft. showroom, Clive lectures on each and every product we pass. He is trying to explain to the lines he loves but in reality he is releasing a pent up  passion for quality products, extraordinary staff and his valued customers.

International Bath and Tile was founded in 1979 by Clive and Tammy. Located in the north-eastern end of San Diego with a second showroom in the far northern suburb of Solana Beach, IBT has grown to become South Southern California’s most popular kitchen, bath and tile design showroom. Six years ago they expanded the business onto the Internet as Plumbtile.com, the name  incorporating the two most descriptive words for the thousands of product lines the business offers.

The visit has been extremely worthwhile. While familiar with Plumbtile’s lines, there is no way to actually know the products without seeing them, touching the textures and experiencing the honest passion of the people selling them.

When walking through the showroom, I found my fingers following the lines and curves of taps, turning the knobs and faucets, testing the pulls and drawers and imaging the comfort of spending part of each morning under many of the oversize shower heads. The textures, aesthetic and quality of each design can’t be described sufficiently without the tactile sensation of touch and the visual sense of sight. More importantly, the authenticity of Clive’s vision of the showroom as an art-space can only be understood in person.

Plumbtile was one of the first online bath, tile and kitchen design showrooms on the Internet. Back then, the company had little competition as the home improvement and design industry was slow to take to the Internet. Though it is by far the largest online showroom of its kind, it now faces at least seventy large scale competitors. My new goal is to express the same sense of quality and pride on the website as Clive and Tammy have in their real-world store.

Watch for more change to the Plumbtile website. We have a collective mission to make your experience at our domain as extraordinary as my own has been in the brick-and-mortar homebase, International Bath and Tile.
