I’ve talked about bathroom design lately, so I want you to know we also offer several decoration and hardware possibilities for the kitchen.
Dornbracht is a German company founded in 1950. The futuristic styling many German designers pioneered was synthesized with traditional ideas that are easily used in today’s homes. In their own words they say, “Good design has therefore been central to our philosophy for many years. Our products are not merely decorative; they are an expression of a distinctive bathroom culture.”
So what do they have to offer?
Since they specialize purely in water-flow, they emphasize craftsmanship in their faucets, taps, showers and tub fillers. They were certainly right in asserting good design. Their kitchen implements aren’t so futuristic as to alienate the mainstream kitchen remodeler, yet some lines do feature some of the vision that German modernists are known for. Some of their products like the Madison Flair Kitchen Faucet have smooth, distinctive lines. These have a more compact 200 mm projection.

This is a traditional look that comes in many configurations. It reminds me of knobby English fixtures from yesteryear. The faucet neck can curve downwards as is standard or attached from the bottom of the fixture in an antique fashion. A cross-handle setup is also possible, though I think it looks best separate from the thermostats. These have a more compact 200 mm projection. It looks fantastic coupled with a basin of stainless steel, but a dark stone surface or a stark white sink would also complement it beautifully.
For something that is a little more post-modern there is the Maro series designed by Sieger. It’s angular and more avant-garde, but still very practical. Most of them have a square geometry to them, resulting in flat, waterfall-like flow when turned on. It can help create a minimalist space in your kitchen, which is becoming more popular in smaller work spaces.

The Maro faucet also has a built in aerator in order to make it more environmentally friendly by giving you the same amount of pressure despite using less water. They are completely flush and do not stick out anywhere in the design. I have an environmentally friendly post coming up too, for those who are interested in ‘greening’ their bath and/or kitchen.
For a middle ground between the traditional and modern looks, the Tara line is perfect. They have under-mounted taps and faucets that combine a straighter, geometric shape with the archetypal structures of older fixtures. A cool selling point on some of the underhand faucets and taps are the extendible arms. The extra reach is measured in millimeters, from 315-485, which translates into about 5 inches.
